Yucca elephantipes

DESCRIPTION

Yuccas, as houseplants, are normally grown by introducing several stems of different heights into a container. From the crown of each stem emerge two or three branches full of leaves that add volume to the composition of stems of different heights. It is a very hardy plant and easy to grow if the four basic care tips are taken into consideration. Yucca elephantipes is also called Yucca elephantipes.

Curiosities: There are about 40 species of yucca. One of them is Manihot Esculenta, the edible cassava, from which cassava and tapioca are obtained. In addition, there are other varieties such as the Yucca filamentosa, which is characterised by the fact that it is a variety without much height and creates pointed spheres. The leaves have threads and alternate between green and yellow, achieving a very decorative effect.

CARE

Temperature: It is a houseplant that tolerates both cold and heat very well.

Light: It is a very demanding plant in terms of light, it can be grown indoors or outdoors in full sun. In fact, the more light it has, the better it will grow, avoiding the thinning that tends to cause yuccas to spike. It is one of the indoor plants that can be directly exposed to the action of the sun near a window.

Watering: Watering should be moderate, as excessive watering can easily cause the roots to rot and, as a consequence, lead to yellowing of the lower leaves and their subsequent fall. It does not need to be sprayed, as its rigid leaves tolerate dry environments very well.

Abono: In spring and summer, a special fertiliser for green plants is recommended. Frequency and dosage according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Transplanting: In spring or early summer every two years or when its size exceeds that of the pot. A light, well-drained substrate is recommended.
